Overview & Map

This 106-day overland tour is operated by Dragoman Overland

Starting in either Panama City or Anchorage, this overland trip gives you the opportunity to experience the best of Central America, the western United States, Alaska & Canada.  Travelling on a US-style school bus, by boat and even by plane, you will visit Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador, Belize, Mexico, the United States of America (including Alaska) & Canada you can expect culture, history, natural beauty, wide open spaces, vibrant cities and on this epic overland tour of Central and North America.

Is this trip for me?

Accommodation – this trip is around 55% camping and 45% accommodation.  Note the majority of the camping is done in Canada & Alaska (so be prepared for quite a few nights of camping in a row), while Central America has a higher proportion of hotels/hostels.  Dormitories may be used when staying in accommodation, although in most (but not all) cases it is possible to upgrade to private accommodation at your cost if you prefer.

Activity Level – there are some fantastic hikes available along this route, many of which require a good to excellent level of fitness (particularly for the volcano treks which can be quite strenuous).  Although the level of activity you embark upon is up to you, this is definitely a trip where those who enjoy hiking and have a good level of fitness will get the most out of the destinations along the way.

Adventure – There are plenty of adventure activities available too, so adrenalin-junkies can get their fill by white-water rafting, mountain biking, hot air ballooning, helicopter flights, kayaking and much more

Wildlife – this is a great trip for wildlife lovers, and a set of binoculars is highly recommended!

History – Central America has a wealth of ancient ruins and this trip visits many of them including highlights such as Chichen Itza (one of the New Seven Wonders of the World), so this is a great trip for you if you love history and ancient ruins.
