DAYS 28 – 40: UZBEKISTAN
After a quick visit to the markets of Dashoguz in northern Turkmenistan, you will cross the border into Uzbekistan and continue to the beautiful historic town of Khiva where you will have a guided tour of the ancient city as well as time to further explore this wonderfully preserved Khanate town.
From Khiva you will head to Bukhara, where you will have three nights and plenty of time to explore the city. A guided tour of Bukhara is included, visiting sites such as the Ismail Samani Mausoleum, Kalon Mosque, Zindon Prison and the Ark Fortress.
Leaving the cities behind for a day, you will head into the Kyzylkhum Desert near the town of Nurata and will have the opportunity to head out on an optional camel ride into the desert, before spending the night in a desert yurt camp. The following morning you will have time to explore the Nurata Hills with the option of taking a dip in Lake Ajdar Kul.
Samarkand will be the next stop on your overland tour of Uzbekistan. You will have a guided tour of this incredible historic city and the surrounding area, including the Registan, Ulug Beg Observatory, Bibi-Khanym Mosque and Shah-I-Zinda.
After lunch on your last day in Samarkand you will drive to the Soviet city of Tashkent, and will have two free days to explore the city.
Continuing your journey towards Kyrgyzstan, you will travel in local transport over the Kamchik Pass to Kokand where you will have the opportunity to visit the Khudayar Khan’s Palace and the nearby Margilan Silk Factory before completing the journey to Ferghana. The truck must pass over the Kamchik Pass without passengers and will rejoin you in the evening in Ferghana.
