DAYS 22 – 27: TURKMENISTAN

Finally disembarking the ferry, you will either spend the night in the port town of Turkmenbashi, or start your journey towards Ashgabat and wild camp en route. Depending on how long the ferry crossing has taken, you may have the chance to stop off at the spectacular Kow Ata Underground Lake with its naturally-heated clear water.

Arriving into the capital, Ashgabat, can be a surreal experience. You will have an included tour of the city using local minibuses, and the option of visiting the famous Ashgabat Sunday Market.

Setting off north from Ashgabat, you will head into the Karakum Desert. You will have an included side trip to the amazing flaming Darvaza Gas Crater (also known as the ‘Door to Hell’!), and wild camp in the desert near the crater.

Continuing your overland journey north across the Karakum Desert, your final stop in Turkmenistan will be the Kunye Urgench ruins, and you will wild camp nearby.
